- Gross salary = monthly CTC − employer PF − employer ESI − gratuity provision (only the parts you tick as included in CTC).
- PF wages = Basic, but if allowances are more than 50% of gross, wages are raised to 50% of gross (the Labour Codes rule). Employee PF is 12% of PF wages, capped at ₹25,000 when the box is ticked.
- ESI applies when gross is ₹21,000 a month or less: 0.75% employee, 3.25% employer.
- Income tax uses new-regime slabs (0–4 L nil, 5% to 8 L, 10% to 12 L, 15% to 16 L, 20% to 20 L, 25% to 24 L, 30% above), a ₹75,000 standard deduction, the rebate up to ₹12 lakh taxable income with marginal relief, and 4% cess.

FAQ
Salary calculator FAQ
How is in-hand salary calculated from CTC in India?
In-hand (take-home) salary = gross monthly salary − employee PF − employee ESI (if covered) − Professional Tax − income tax (TDS) − other deductions. Gross salary is CTC minus employer-side costs such as employer PF, employer ESI and gratuity provision.
How much PF is deducted from salary?
The employee contributes 12% of PF wages. Employers usually restrict this to the wage ceiling, which is ₹25,000 a month from 17 September 2026 (₹15,000 before), so the maximum restricted employee PF is ₹3,000 a month.
When is ESI deducted?
ESI applies when gross monthly wages are ₹21,000 or less. The employee pays 0.75% and the employer 3.25% of ESI wages.
Is there income tax on a ₹12 lakh salary under the new regime?
For salaried employees, taxable income up to ₹12 lakh after the ₹75,000 standard deduction gets a full rebate under the new regime, so a salary of up to about ₹12.75 lakh has no income tax (marginal relief applies just above it). Surcharge and special incomes are ignored in this calculator.
